Whitney Behnke is no stranger to southwest Michigan. After growing up in Coloma, the 28-year-old explored the United States for a bit but returned home to the corner of the Mitten State where she met her husband, a Dowagiac police officer.
Drawn to Lake Michigan, Behnke left Dowagiac last winter and moved a little farther west. Today, she spends her days showing off all St. Joseph and the surrounding communities have to offer as executive director of St. Joseph Today.
What do you do as executive director at St. Joe Today?
At St. Joe Today we have the welcome center downtown that hosts all of our member information. So, being a member organization, a lot of the businesses within southwest Michigan kind of look to us as an extension of their marketing. And we are also a resource for the community and for new visitors.
They come in and ask, “What’s there to do around here?” Well, we have all the answers. We can tell you everything. And we also put on a lot of the big events that happen in downtown St. Joe and so we are really focused on making sure there is a lot to do for people in the area — for residents, for tourists — so that we can really help showcase the vibrancy of southwest Michigan.
