What do you think makes Michiana unique by comparison to other places?
KB: The uniqueness of this area is exactly why I love it. I appreciate the diversity of the people who live here and all that brings to our community. There is an endless list of things to do for families in the summer and winter. Our proximity to major points of interest, like Lake Michigan, Notre Dame and Chicago is nice. Meanwhile, it’s just a great place to raise a family.
What is your favorite place to visit in Michiana?
My family and I love to visit Silver Beach. In the summer, we spend hours at the beach playing in the sand and swimming. Then we visit the carousel and eat at Silver Beach Pizza. Yum. In the winter, we enjoy the beautiful view of the lighthouse on the frozen lake and we often visit the children’s museum.
Do you think living in Michiana has changed you in any way?
I don’t think the area has changed me. Instead, I think as I’ve changed and grown I’m now able to better appreciate what this area has to offer. When my husband and I first moved here nearly 10 years ago we were newly married and trying to find a place to call home. We now feel like we’ve lived here forever.
What is your favorite time of the year?
I like the summer when we can spend nearly every waking moment outside! I’m not a big fan of the cold, though I do love a thick layer of fresh snow.
If you were to meet someone planning a visit to the Michigan area for the first time, what places would you tell them not to miss?
Silver Beach, Notre Dame home football weekend, Sunburst Races, wine tasting in southwest Michigan, fruit u-pick, camping at Potato Creek State Park, or a Saturday South Bend Cubs Game.
